The liquid Circus Recently caught up with Hayley Smith who is currently living the endless summer in a small town called Clermont just outside of Orlando Florida, heres what she had to say:
Jamie:
So Hayley, you've been living in Clermont Florida with Amber Wing for the past few months. What have you been up to?
Hayley:
Yeah, I am living with Amber again this year. This is our 4th year together, arent we cute. Things have been super busy this year, Amber has been out of town a fair bit and we have had a bunch of people coming over, friends and family. Other than that, the usual riding at the Wakeboard Camp, we have been hitting up Tampa Cable Park a bit lately also which has been wicked sick man!
Jamie:
Tampa Cable you say? can you tell me a bit about this place?
Hayley:
Tampa is a newer park that opened up last year. It is different to most as the cable runs in a clockwise direction, where parks like OWC, CWC are all counter-clockwise. Its has a really cool vibe, you dont have the kids who spend all day everyday there with their grommet attitudes everybody is super pumped just to be there. The rails are pretty fun there, though I have more fun keeping it real with my raleys on the cable!
Jamie:
So who have you been spending most of your time on the water with?
Hayley:
generally whoever is around at the camp. Amber is back now so ill be riding with her, Bob Sichel, Bec Gange and Chad Lowe. I have been riding a few times with my brother which is always fun! I was riding with Ben Greenwood a bit also, but he has been all over the place traveling.
Jamie:
I've heard on the grape vine you may have switched board companies....true or false?
Hayley:
This is true, I have! At the beginning of the US summer I signed on with Ronix, which I am super pumped with! I get to be apart of a small select team which includes my brother, and get to have Emily as pretty much my boss... what could be bad? The designs for the 2010 product are awesome, I am really excited to see where the company goes and how far I can within it!
Jamie:
So what board in the ronix range will you be shredding on for 2010? Have you decided yet or is it a secret?
Hayley:
I will be riding the Dahlia which is a whole new shape from the womens range. It is a fairly aggressive board, it holds really well through the wake and punches straight up. The graphics also look sick!
Jamie:
Sweet! you have been away from for a while now, What are you missing most about OZ?
Hayley:
HMMM... other than real bread?
and Jim Beam cans?
Jamie:
Haha yes! i will have an ice cold one for you this evening.
Hayley:
I think I always miss how laid back everybody is, I love how mellow our lifestyle is. I also miss salt water! Oh what I would do right now to jump head first into the ocean! Preferably the Hacko!
Jamie:
For sure. You went to the US Nationals recently, how did it all go for you.
Hayley:
Nationals went really well for me. I ended up fourth and was pretty happy with how I rode. I had a little bit of a dodgy start to the season with hurting my rib before Wake Games which played with me for a little while. Nationals really prepared me for Worlds and gave me the confidence back that I had throughout the Aussie tour
Jamie:
you were definently in good form when i left Clermont, Hows that elusive pete rose been treating you? Looked like you were getting pretty close. any developments?
Hayley:
OH MAN! haha I have never been so focused on landing one trick before! I have been working with Kyle Schmidt today on the tramp refining my technique and understanding the rotation better. On the water I am pretty confident so hopefully good news will soon follow!
Jamie:
fingers crossed. Would you say that good things come in small packages or not?......haha
Hayley:
OH heck yes! I think that would be a true statement! haha. Maybe those around me wouldnt say so. I just got told "the smaller the package the bigger the boom
jamie:
i would agree with this statement aswell.
jamie:
soft tacos or hard?
Hayley:
SOFT!!! the mexicans dont do hard, so if soft is good enough for them, they are good enough for me!!!
and they are easier to manage
Jamie:
Well Hayley its been splendid talking to you, i hope the rest of your trip serves you well, got any thing you'de like to say to anyone?
Hayley:
Jamie, I would like to say that having the chance to spend time with you over the past two months has really been amazing! Thank you! Anything to add.... I would like to give huge thanks to all the people who have supported me, Black Diamond Sydney, ProWake Academy on the Gold Coast, The Wakeboard Camp in Florida as well as my family.
and the Wings who let me work for them (dont know why) at Wing Wetsuits for the past two summers!
